Leading Asthma and Allergy Author and Counselor Joins The HealthCentral Network As Expert

ARLINGTON, VA - The HealthCentral Network, Inc. (www.HealthCentral.com) today announced that Sloane Miller, an author and psychotherapist who has asthma and allergies, will join MyAllergyNetwork.com and MyAsthmaCentral.com as an expert. Miller, dubbed "Allergic Girl", first gained online prominence through her blog, "Please Don't Pass the Nuts", which catalogues her daily challenges with asthma and food allergies.

Miller will educate, support, and empower community members through weekly blogs including interviews with prominent medical professionals, health and lifestyle-related book and product reviews, author interviews, human interest stories, and diet and cooking tips on HealthCentral.com's Asthma and Allergy sites. The sites provide targeted clinical information and resources on treating and managing conditions, as well as a network of experts like Miller, and community members who share their personal stories of living with a chronic condition.

"I'm excited to join HealthCentral's award-winning effort and help give a voice to the millions of Americans who live with allergies and asthma," Miller said. "As someone with food/environmental allergies and allergic asthma, I'm intimately aware of the effects of these chronic conditions. As a psychotherapeutic social worker, I can attest that belonging to supportive virtual communities such as the ones HealthCentral fosters decreases the fear and frustrations associated with these illnesses."

"Sloane Miller's excellent work supporting and advocating for asthma and allergy sufferers makes her an ideal addition to the HealthCentral team," said Chris Schroeder, CEO and President of The HealthCentral Network. "Sloane's expertise, dedication to patients and community involvement are essential to helping others manage and take control of their health."

Miller is a Pushcart Prize nominated author and earned her MFA in Writing and Literature from Bennington College in 1998. She earned an MSW/CSW from New York University in 2000 and is a licensed psychotherapeutic social worker. She has counseled adults, children, families, couples and groups, and is currently coaching adults with allergies and asthma. Miller's "Please Don't Pass the Nuts" (http://allergicgirl.blogspot.com/) was recently featured in The Wall Street Journal and has been noted in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, WNBC.com, Eater.com and About.com in the past year. Miller was also a featured expert on WFUV's Cityscapes in New York City.
